How many calories do strawberries have? We answer!

Many people wonder about the calorie content of strawberries, fearing that their sweet taste must go hand in hand with a high number of calories. It's time to dispel these doubts once and for all. 100 grams of fresh strawberries contain only 32 to 33 kcal. This is really not much, especially when compared to other fruits – apples have almost twice as many calories, and bananas even three times as many. Thanks to this, strawberries are a fantastic choice for people watching their weight.

  • One medium fruit (weighing about 15 g) is only 5 kcal.
  • A whole handful (70 g) provides about 22-23 kcal.
  • A glass of these fruits (150 g) is still only about 48 kcal.

Strawberries: calories in different portions

Understanding how calorie content translates to specific, daily portions helps to better control the diet without giving up pleasure. Since you already know that 100 g is about 32 kcal, it's easy to calculate larger quantities.

  • A bowl filled with 200 grams of strawberries is only 64 kcal.
  • If you feel like a real feast and eat a quarter of a kilogram (250 g), you will provide your body with only 80 kcal.
  • Even a very large portion, weighing 300 g, is still less than 100 kcal – exactly 96 kcal.

Their low energy value results mainly from the high water content and a relatively small amount of carbohydrates (about 5.8 g per 100 g) and the presence of fiber, which additionally supports the feeling of fullness in the stomach.

What about frozen strawberries? Kcal revealed

The season for fresh strawberries unfortunately does not last forever, but fortunately we have access to frozen ones. Do frozen strawberries have a different calorie content? The answer is no, as long as you choose products without additives. 100 grams of frozen strawberries without added sugar have practically the same number of calories as fresh fruit, i.e., about 30-35 kcal. This is great news for lovers of smoothies, porridges, or healthy desserts, who want to enjoy the taste of strawberries all year round. The freezing process, if carried out correctly, allows to preserve most of the nutritional values, including precious vitamin C

Strawberries in your diet – how to use them?

The low calorie content of strawberries makes them an ally in any weight loss diet and healthy eating. You can eat them in many ways, without worrying about excess calories. They are excellent as a standalone snack that will satisfy your sweet tooth. They pair perfectly with natural yogurt, skyr, or as an addition to your morning oatmeal, enriching its taste and nutritional value. You can also blend them into refreshing smoothies with water or plant-based drinks, or add them to salads to break up their taste with a sweet note. The presence of dietary fiber (about 2 g per 100 g) means that strawberries effectively help curb hunger, thus making it easier to avoid snacking between meals.
